Evolution of Regulatory Governance in the Chinese Steel Industry

The presentation outlines the transition of regulatory governance in the Chiese steel industry from a state-business nexus characterized by multiple principals towards a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) - controlled China Steel Inc. Against the background of an analysis of the goals addressed, strengths and weaknesses of the former regime, the various institutional arrangements government agencies on various levels have been experimenting with will be discussed. The current regime, which grants the CCP substantial powers, will be introduced and assessed in its capacity to bring "order" to the industry.
