To balance the relationship between supply and demand, but also between incumbent firms and new entrants, or even between operators and governments, regulators can rely on the formal levers of power granted to them (as obligations, tariffs, and sanctions) or on the levers of soft-law: recommendations, guidelines, benchmarking, naming and shaming, etc. Recent studies highlight that information gathering and publicization of practices by regulators have increased over the last years. Datafication but also the relatively low cost of these tools may explain this trend. This conference will be aimed at comparing the practices and the performance of sunshine regulation in diverse industries and various institutional contexts to better understand how regulatory goals can be met thanks to an appropriate management of data and information.
